millennial blog project

I won’t sit idly by and watch my life pass before my eyes

A millennial’s coming-of-age story

My name is Emily and I’m 30 years old. I’ve been writing on this blog in fits and spurts since I was 14, originally as “Blackbyrd” on blackbyrd.wordpress.com. I’ve long been enamored by the written word and have scribbled poems and sonnets in countless notebooks since I was 7.

Today I’m a classically trained journalist who has built a successful career in corporate marketing. On this blog I write about my musings while traveling all over the world and riding my bike.

Welcome to my never-ending coming-of-age story.

Thanks for visiting!

  • To be honest…

To be perfectly honest, you’re NOT being honest. And truth is, you’re NOT telling the truth. • Weird is the new normal :(

I haven’t written since April 17 for many many many reasons. Ready for a long post? This might be one of those. Papa looked so life-like when he lay in that borrowed casket. I reached out and touched his withered 87-year-old hand and it felt like hardened wax. My mom was right when she said Read more

  • Marina is a dreamer

There are 6,080 songs in my iTunes. A majority of it them are by The Beatles and Red Hot Chili Peppers. However, recently I have added more to my collection. I used to be the biggest fan of bands like Bullet for my Valentine, Escape the Fate (I even met them once) and LOVED Marilyn Read more

  • What a best friend does

Friends have come and gone for me over the years and there has only been one who has been my friend continuously since Kindergarten. He and I have had our ups and downs with this relationship, but there have been more ups than downs. That’s what makes a friendship work. I grew up surrounded by Read more
