I won’t sit idly by and watch my life pass before my eyes

A millennial’s coming-of-age story

My name is Emily and I’m 30 years old. I’ve been writing on this blog in fits and spurts since I was 14, originally as “Blackbyrd” on blackbyrd.wordpress.com. I’ve long been enamored by the written word and have scribbled poems and sonnets in countless notebooks since I was 7.

Today I’m a classically trained journalist who has built a successful career in corporate marketing. On this blog I write about my musings while traveling all over the world and riding my bike.

Welcome to my never-ending coming-of-age story.

Thanks for visiting!

  • A five-minute song

I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is, I found my journal! The silly goose was hiding behind my bed and not answering when I called! But now I’ve got it and all of the incredibly personal writings trapped inside in my possession once again. Not that it ever really Read more

They were probably playing cards or a board game or something while Read more

  • Up here on cloud nine

I did it. After missing States by .1 on Friday, I went back on Saturday and did it. I ran a 2:16.52 800m and got third place on Friday, June 4th. The state standard time for the 800m is 2:20 and I well surpassed that. The problem is, I failed to fall within the top Read more

  • Dear Summer, Come In!

Umm…yeah. I haven’t posted anything in awhile. Umm…hi. I guess that with the beautiful weather we’ve been having I haven’t been tempted to sit down and pump something into words. I’ve been too busy swimming and soaking up as much sunshine as I can afford to before I get burned. In other news, I got Read more
