I won’t sit idly by and watch my life pass before my eyes

A millennial’s coming-of-age story

My name is Emily and I’m 30 years old. I’ve been writing on this blog in fits and spurts since I was 14, originally as “Blackbyrd” on blackbyrd.wordpress.com. I’ve long been enamored by the written word and have scribbled poems and sonnets in countless notebooks since I was 7.

Today I’m a classically trained journalist who has built a successful career in corporate marketing. On this blog I write about my musings while traveling all over the world and riding my bike.

Welcome to my never-ending coming-of-age story.

Thanks for visiting!

  • Fear of the Fly-Eaters

Yes, I am one of those girls that screams at the sight of a toad. I do not like things that can hop out at me – and toads are definitely capable of doing just that. Their nasty scaly bodies and their evil little beady eyes creep me out to no end. When my friends Read more

  • Stinky Cheese

My boyfriend provided the title for this post, and now I finally came up with something to write underneath the mysterious title. No, this post is not about stinky cheese. Rather, this is about all of the annoyances in life. Is stinky cheese not an annoyance? The first annoyance that I would like to address Read more

  • Tales of the Runner

“It is okay, Emily, you can do this!” I tell myself as I approach the 1500 meter starting line on Randolph’s pretty red track with over a dozen other girls. Questions of why do I do this to myself? and when does the torture end? enter my head, but I push them away and focus Read more

  • Never Played

It amazed me to see how many songs there are on my iPod that I have never even listened to. I clicked on the Play Count button on the top right of my iTunes screen while in my iPod music file, and I found that my ears have not heard over forty songs come out Read more
